Our Story

Built in 1956 by Mr Davis, this house used to be the annexe of the hostel at Narrogin Senior High School.

The first six ladies that resided in this house were Peggy Sambell (married name), Faye Becker, Dorothy Lulfitz, Pat Bruin, Pam Freeman and Shirley Orchard.

Mr & Mrs Morley ran the hostel, assisted by Miss Mil Kenny. From what we could find out by asking around, was that the last students stayed here in 1979.

We have since had the great honour of having both Peggy Sambell and Sherly Anderson (Orchard) stay here with us on separate occasions.

Bella’s name was chosen by our Children

in very fond memory of their belated grandmother Ouma Bella, who was a most remarkable woman.

About Narrogin

Narrogin is an Aboriginal name that was first recorded as “Narroging” for a pool that was in the area in 1869. While the meaning of this town name is uncertain, various sources have recorded it as “bat camp”, “plenty of everything” or derived from “gnargagin” which translates to “place of water”.

Today, Narrogin has accumulated a significant infrastructure in the health and education areas. This has served as the base for the modern regional centre that Narrogin is today.
